G'day from the Guyster,

Well back home from Tassie and now looking at Xmas and the New Year. Gee, this report will be a ride report I guess, but here I go.

My first day I travelled from Toowoomba to Coffs Harbour, it was great weather no incidents. Other than that, the place has not changed since I was there a couple of years ago. I found fairly decent motel and the local club food was pretty good.

The next day I travelled to Sydney to stay a couple days with my dad aka Dick. Well, I must have been the only one on the Mid North of NSW to have been hit by rain and not enough time to put wet weather gear on. Oh well, those are the breaks on a motor bike.

I also visited Frazer's Harley dealership's new premises. It is very impressive. One thing that came out of the visit was having a 2006 model Harley and they never changed the security fob battery. It needed changing, so remember all please check your battery. Yes it was good to see Sydney, but it's better when you are leaving it.

Travelled to Melbourne stopping off at the usual fuel stops. I must say that I have a thing about our pioneer history with the dog on the Tucker box in Gundagai. If you're up on your Australian history you know what I mean, if not oh well to bad.

Well I arrived in Melbourne, very busy place, just like Sydney, but one thing you must do is give the drivers down there extra car spaces (especially Middle Eastern ladies) so they don’t reverse back into your bike. Yes, it happened to me. I really have good luck, so that might be the reason I ride by myself.

Next day, rode to Port Melbourne with all the other Harleys. About 500 of them boarded on the Spirit of Tasmania. This went very smooth, no mishaps. Only people with late models needed to keep their security fob on the bike. Boat trip got us over to Devonport by 6.30pm the same day. All went great and a very smooth boat travel across the Tasman Sea. The roar of 500 Harleys inside the bowels of The Spirit of Tasmania was phenomenal.

Well, I travelled all the East Coast of Tassie. I must say it was damn fabulous! The locals were friendly and great to chat to. They wanted know to about the bikes and where I was from. It will be one of the places that will stick in my mind. JUST GREAT.

It's fun being a stranger in a pub you don't know, then reading a sign advertising gay bingo and yes, according to the security person that asked, it was very gay. I was obviously in the wrong place!!!!

The rally was well organised and the venue was great. It was fun. I found a pub near the venue so I stopped in for a drink, the entertainment provided was first class. Jimmy Barnes was great.

The highlight was the Thunder Run, it was magic, covering the riverside of Launceston. The people were also great, turning out in their thousands. The organisers stated about 1900 Harleys were on the run, pretty impressive. When in Tassie you must stop in to Richardson Harley, another must do!

Oh well, the trip is nearing it's end. I shared a cabin with two strangers who's chainsaw like snoring helped me stay awake until we hit Port Melbourne, thanks guys. Then I rode to Sydney, then Sydney to Toowoomba. That leg was very hot and slow…..And yes believe it or not the bike never broke down, even after the reversing incident. I have supplied the editor with pictures, so they should be in the newsletter.

With our AGM only three months away (yes and who is counting), I would like to talk about nominations. Now members should start thinking of their nominations for the new committee or, better still, nominate yourself as it's the best way to contribute to the running of the chapter.

I would like to see all chapter members consider themselves as office bearers in the New Year & maybe give a short presentation for your reason why. Of course this will be optional but what a great way to get your points across to the chapter and the reason you would make great new office bearers. In the past it was given to members who were great blokes or girls. We need members who have passion and commitment for the club and its future. (Yes I know we are only volunteers BUT).

In future committees it would be good to see a two year turn around on new committee member so the chapter can get the best possible candidates and fresh ideas, so the chapter should grow.

On the 12 December there will be a Chapter Xmas ride leaving Boyd's at 2pm and we all be home to attend the Chapter Xmas party which will held at Mill Street Tavern at 7 pm. This will be a chapter sponsored event.

I would like to ask members if they have any ideas to improve the club, any sort of initiatives that will improve the club's rides, or meetings. Please bring these ideas forward as this is your club and getting involved is the only way for your club to move forward.

Stay safe, ride lots and enjoy your Harley,

Guyster
